Semester One End Of The Year Blogger:

I would say some of my strengths in this class is communication. I like to talk and I feel like the bond we have with the juniors wether good or bad has been better and will benefit for the future and the good of the SID program and I can't wait to see Jack on the headset next year. Some personal strengths are the fact I'm good at researching for broadcast and I'm always willing to anchor. I'm glad that I've been given the chance to do what I like in this class.

A weakness is the fact I don't really know how to use any of the equipment but I also don't plan on using it either. Sometimes cussing is a major problem in this class which I know I need to work on and I will work on it. I also want to get better at editing material before I leave and that would really make me happy.

The plan is just to finish out the year and help transition other people to roles that we have. I really am better at saying this stuff in person then putting it on a piece of paper. I feel like the rest of the year will go very smoothly and things can be good. I'm looking forward to broadcasting games and finishing out broadcasting at northwest, and I really enjoy broadcasting and plan to do it one day for a small local company possibly. A few smart goals are just improving everyday, working on not cussing,

Game Day Northwest Production:

Olathe Northwest had it's first media day on Thursday, December 14th. Media flowed well and it looked good when I watched it on youtube. Some things still could of been improved I didn't like how the mediator was sitting with the players and coach on the table. Some shot of the crowd weren't the best. Some of the time the questions didn't make it to where the athletes could answer the question. It would of been better to have some highlights of the players and teams why the coaches and players are giving there statements and talking. The commercials got old seeing the same commercials over and over again got very old.

Jack was very well prepared with his statements and summary/intros to the team.
I didn't see any of the reporters taking notes of what the athletes were saying.
We should have bottles of waters waiting for them on the table as well as getting microphone stands.

I really liked seeing media day and seeing all the players that come make there statements and come talk about how things were going to go this year.

Some things we need to work on are just generally getting better at asking questions and having follow up questions to the answers.

Blog 12/8/17: The wild ride of the Ball family at UCLA: Article review

This blogger is about the Ball families fun at UCLA. The Balls got there first start at UCLA because of Lonzo Ball committing to play basketball for UCLA. After that brothers Liangelo Ball and Lamelo Ball which are Balls younger brothers committed to UCLA trying to bring the Chino Hills (CA) magic to UCLA. That run was short lived after an exit of UCLA losing to Kentucky in March madness. Gelo the brother of Zo, and Melo was on the team but that run was quickly over as he was arrested in China on shoplifting. Lavar Ball the father of three dream boys decided to pull his son Liangelo after he was suspended indefinitely by UCLA. Father Ball had already pulled son Melo from Chino Hills where the boys have been quite successful in there highschool careers.

What I like the author did was include facts that happened and explain what happened as well. He gives a timeline of what has happened.

There wasn't much that I didn't like because I liked it all.

KU V.S. Kentucky Game

When KU took on Kentucky on Tuesday the announcers for ESPN are seasoned veterans.  Dan Shulman and Dick Vitale were on the mic. They flowed and are really comfortable with each other and of course they are very experience and have done plenty of games and will excel compared to lower and younger broadcasters.

Some technical problems and it wasn't there fault was the fact when the crowd got loud it was very hard to hear the announcers and especially it was hard to hear Dick Vitale.

What I'm going to take away from them is the fact that they are really prepared and sound really good with each other.

Stanford Football: Day in the Life: Trenton Irwin

Stanford Football did a day in the life of Trenton Irwin to show what it's like to be a Division 1 athlete. They started off with him at his dorm, then he went to breakfast, football practice and dinner. They did a good job of getting every aspect of his day, and truly made it a day in the life.

If I were to do a day in the life I would include everything. I would stick to little bit of outside the practice because everyone knows that they have to go to practice. They included head shots, close ups, extra wide shots, and other variety of shots that were good. They got a interview at the end that made it good.

This week in class I tried to get us started in Raven Round up discussions.

TNT Review

Last night after the Lakers lost the game because of Damian Lillard game winning shot. With 0.7 seconds left on the clock. Ernie and the rest of the TNT crew talked about the game and did highlights of the game. I like how they follow their shot sheet really good, and I know they have been doing it for year but they are really good at it. I'm gonna add that to my work and try to get more fluent at it.

I don't like how they talk to each other sometimes, but they do a really good job of working past it. The technical stuff was really good last night they did a good job.

What I did like is how they have a great sense of chemistry with each other. But they give their opinions way to much and it doesn't work and it isn't visible about the game. It's all basically about themselves.

Alex Rodriguez steroids Usage

Alex Rodriguez says that steroids killed and costed his career million of dollars. With that being the worst thing he had ever done in his career. Alex Rodriguez admitted to using PED's costed his career and giving him a year suspension.
In my work coming up I liked how they used his interview and his testimony and using what he did and turning it into positives showing you can't cheat.
Somethings I won't use is a sad story of someone cheating.

Weekly Blog

Matt Norlander reporter for CBS did a story over the University of Louisville putting two assistants on administrative leave. The reporter did a good job of saying why they were getting put on paid leave. Also they told the story of what happened in previous weeks leading up to the time off. Giving background information about the coaches as well was a really good idea and go sense of direction for the story.
https://www.cbssports.com/college-basketball/news/louisville-puts-its-only-two-remaining-assistant-basketball-coaches-on-leave/Something I would of added was little bit more information on the whole situation. But I would definitely write my write-ups and reports like he did. He did a good job of being a reporter and reporting the story.

Monday, September 11, 2017

My weekly blog is from espn and Jake Trotter is the espn staff writer who writ the story. The story is about Baker Mayfield Oklahoma quarterback who beat Ohio State. Mayfield waved the OU flag at midfield and planted it in the field. Trotter did a good job of briefing what had happened then he gave a quote that he got when he interviewed baker. Trotter also included a photo of Baker with the flag and gave his stats for the night.

I think what he could of done better was add a video. The video should of been and had included highlights of the game plus baker putting the flag into the ground. I think that the title isn't really appropriate for the writing that was  in the story.

I'm going to add things like stats, and a brief summary of what happened before the story. I think that what he really did well was adding a video and a photo and we have to add a video so we will be fine.

End Of The Year Reflection:

My junior year in E-comm was my best and my most favorite class I’ve had. I got to do a lot of things that I wanted to do. I was able to focus on being a sports reporter and broadcasting games.
 Technology:
Editing was issue for me at the beginning of the year I struggled with jump cuts and I didn’t know how to completely do everything. I still don’t know how to completely do final cut pro but I was able to find out and do a lot. I feel like my editing skills got better and I don’t have as much jump cuts and my work got better. https://youtu.be/6z8oq2cqzPo Cooper and I put together a pretty solid final that had a beginning, middle, and end.
Collaboration:
I was able to really work with any one and I like everyone in the class. I really enjoyed broadcasting and I enjoyed everyone I got to work with on the headset and on set. My favorite person to anchor with is my brother and my favorite person to broadcast with is Roan. One of the best games I felt I called was the regional championship when the boys took on SMS and won sub-state and advanced to the state tournament.
Communication:
Communication needs to be worked on by me and everyone else. There were times where people thought they weren’t supposed to cover things and they were. It’s all a learning process and something we all need to work out and accomplish and improve as seniors so we can build and prosper next year and for years to come.
Project Management:
I felt pretty good about this. It’s important to have your stuff done and on the drive. When your done you can just relax and hangout with the people in the class.
Leadership:
I just like to lead and be in charge and have a large responsibility. I got burned out the last few weeks of school.
Strengths/Weakness:
Some of my strengths are editing, my voice, being on the mic. I really like calling games and I hope I can turn that hobby into a profession when I’m older. But I need to work on my on camera talking even though I have a lot of confidence. A weakness is making sure the audio levels are good and steady shots since I don’t use a tripod.

I’m going to have a positive attitude next year about all sports assignments even though I won’t cover any girl’s sports besides volleyball and soccer. I’m not doing anything not a power 3 sport.
I’m going to work on becoming a better editor and story teller.
I would change just how people don’t work. I think it’s wrong we have a 24 hour turn around on games, but convergence gets to take 2 weeks and their awful stories except a few.

I had a great year and I look forward to my senior year of E-comm and having not one not two but three hours of E-comm next year. Thanks for letting me what I wanted to this year. I really enjoyed just calling game and doing sports stories. I hope to grow on that and really establish my voice next year.
